Iced Tea — When It's Too Hot to Drink Coffee

sweat It's summertime in the Philippines and it's just too hot to drink coffee (hot coffee) except for when it's before 9 am. Only someone more insane than I would any drink any kind of coffee other than iced coffee after that hour of the day.

I switched from hot coffee to iced tea and plain ice water when the weather started to become unbearably hot. Lukewarm water, or even chilled water from the dispenser, just doesn't cut it.

Corn and Rice Coffee — When Coffee isn't Coffee

corn coffee There's one thing about coffee that doesn't sit well with people who don't make a lot of money. It's expensive. It's always going to be expensive. My wife told me about how she had rice coffee when she was young because her family was too poor to buy coffee. So I knew about rice coffee, but I didn't know there was also a corn coffee.

Coffee or Postum? You Decide

Postum You're probably scratching your head and asking yourself "What the heck is Postum?" It would be more appropriate to ask yourself "What the heck WAS Postum?"

I originally wrote this article in February of 2007 and placed it on my main site. Little did I know at the time that Kraft Foods would be discontinuing the production of Postum in the fall of 2007. Although the article drew quite a few visitors then, and received a few comments, I believe it's better suited to be archived on this site instead of my main site because this site is about coffee and that one is not. Simple enough right? Anyway, this is the first of two articles I'll be moving over here. Enough with the explanation and on with the story — bear in mind that it was written in February of 2007:

Did Someone Say Coffee and Donuts?

Dunkin' Donuts I've already made it plain that I like coffee. In the US, coffee and donuts (doughnuts for you purists) go together like white on rice or ugly on an ape. It's not quite like that for Filipinos in the Philippines, but it is for Americans like me. What's even better than a cup of coffee and donut? A cup of coffee and a coffee cake donut!

X.O. Coffee Candy — Better than Kopiko?

X.O. Coffee Candy The store where I usually get the Kopiko coffee candy recently ran out of the bags in the size that I normally buy. They have a huge bag available for 300 pesos, but I don't want big bags. When my nieces and nephews see a large bag of candy, they won't stop hounding me until it's gone. Their teeth are bad enough as it is and they don't need MORE candy to make them worse (they already eat candy every single day).

Black Gold, Lifer Juice and Nectar of the Gods

small cup of coffee It's amazing to me how one thing can be called by so many different things in the English language. Sometimes it's even something that's imported from another language. If you try to use any of the terms instead of the word "coffee" in many foreign countries (like my home in the Philippines), you'll just get a blank stare.

Nescafé Protect – Green Coffee Beans Combined with Regular Coffee Beans

Nescafé Protect I don't hide the fact that Nescafé Classic is my favorite instant coffee product. I buy two or three jars of it every month (except this month because it was out of stock). A couple of months ago, I noticed an advertisement on one of the jars I'd purchased. It didn't say a whole lot — the new product mentioned wasn't on the shelves yet.

Coffee Cups and Coffee Mugs

coffee mug What's the difference between a coffee cup and a coffee mug? While the terms are used interchangeably, there actually is a difference. A coffee cup, per se, holds one cup of coffee. A coffee mug, on the other hand, holds more than a cup. How much coffee a coffee mug can hold depends entirely on the design of the mug.

Christmas Coffee and Christmas Tea

latte art Out of nothing more than curiosity, I decided to search for both "Christmas Coffee" and "Christmas Tea". I was astounded by number of results; more than 7 million for "Christmas Coffee" and more than a million for "Christmas Tea". I never would have thought about either had I not been thinking about getting a late-night cup of coffee and that's it's nearly Christmas day (within the hour).

Coffee Beans, Coffee Roasters and Coffee Grinders

roasted coffee beans I normally don't recycle pictures to use on multiple articles, but I really have to make an exception when it comes to coffee beans. There only so many ways to present them and hunting down new photographs is a chore in itself. Anyway, that's obviously not what this article is about. No, I just wanted to throw out some things about coffee beans that some people aren't aware of.
